J.C.R. Licklider
The spiritual father of internet
born on November 3rd 1915 in St.Louis
studies math, physics and psychology at Washington University in St. Louis and graduates in 1937
his doctoral thesis from 1942 is about „An electrical investigation of frequency-localization in the auditory cortex of the cat”
becomes professor at MIT in 1950
from 1957 to 1962 he is vice president of the psychoacoustic, the psychology and the information system department of BBN
is head of IPTO from 1962 through 1964
1964 to 1967 he is manager of information science, systems and applications at Thomas J. Watson Center of International Business Machines
goes back to MIT in 1968 to teach until 1973
1974 and 1975 he is head of IPTO again
from 1975 to 1986 he is professor at the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science (LCS)
aged 75 he passes away on June 26th 1990 after an asthma attack
