- born in 1925 in Vienna, Austria
- after the invasion of the Nazis in Austria he emigrates to the USA with his mother
- in the late 1940s he becomes American citizen
- he studies physical chemistry in Chicago
- after his course of studies he works for the Naval Research Laboratory and the Army Ballistic Research Laboratory
- in 1961 he comes to ARPA to supervise the missile defense program
- by 1965 he is director of ARPA
- he leaves ARPA in 1967 to work for the ITT Corporation as a technical director
- in 1985 he becomes vice CEO of Aetna, Jacobs and Ramo Technology Ventures
- in 1990 he starts working for the Department of Defense
- today he works as a consultant for the government and private organisations
