The idea of hypertext
Tim Berners-Lee from CERN, a European organisation for nuclear research, begins with the work for his project of a hypertext-system. The original intention of his system was to find a simple way to exchange results of the latest research with colleagues. Instead of a hierarchical or a keyword based system, Berners-Lee counted on the hypertext-system for the realization of his project. In the very beginning he linked one dissertation or scientific paper with another, and soon an extensive information network developed. This information network was the origin of WWW as we know it today.
