TCP and IP
In early 1978 a meeting about TCP at the Information Science Institute (ISI) lead by Vinton Cerf took place. During the breaks, a hot discussion between Cerf, Jonathan Postel and Danny Cohen, a colleague of Postel from ISI erupts in the hall. A big piece of cardboard was held against the wall and suddenly all of them started drawing charts on it.
As the meeting went on, the trio presented an idea to the audience: the transmission control protocols, responsible for routing should be separated and therefore a new internet protocol (IP) must be developed.

After this separation TCP ought to split up messages into packets, reassemble them at the receivers’ side in the correct order, find errors and send lost packets again. The internet protocol or just IP was only responsible for the routing of the single packets.
After the three of them decided in favour of developing a new protocol, they immediately started to realize their concept. In 1978 TCP had officially become TCP/IP.
