The University of Utah was founded in 1850 by Mormon leader Brigham Young in Salt Lake City under the name "University of Deseret“ and was closed already two years later for financial reasons. In 1867 the school was reopened and renamed "University of Utah“ in 1894.
UTAH Campus
On December 5th 1969 University of Utah – following UCLA, SRI and UCSB – joined the ARPANET as the last of the original four nodes. The first electronic network was now complete and continued to expand. Besides joining the ARPANET and pioneering in computer animation, digital music recording and graphical user interfaces, University of Utah becam famous for its medical sector (e.g. cardiology, gynaecology) as well. In 1982 the first fully functional artificial heart was transplanted at the University of Utah. The patient survived for 112 days.
