Uni London
The University College of London (UCL) was founded in 1826 as an alternative to the strictly religious universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
UCL was the first school of higher education in Great Britain to accept students of any culture and belief.
Like some American universities (UCLA, MIT…) UCL can be said to have pioneered the development of the internet. In 1973 with the UCL connecting to the ARPANET the first international link ever was established. UCL joined the ARPANET via the Norwegian research institute NORSAR, the first step towards a global network was done. Two years later UCL and Hawaii connected to the ARPANET via a satellite link. First tests on radio data transmission ended successful.
